Fifth Grade Families, We’ve moved into one of my favorite math units - volume ! This week, students are learning how to measure the space inside  a 3D shape, and they are off to a great start. To build understanding, students used unit cubes  to construct rectangular prisms. By counting the cubes, they discovered what volume really means. Don’t worry, this is a gentle introduction  to algebra, and students are going to do a a great job with it! A variable  is just a letter or symbol that stands for a number we don’t know yet.
